48th Annual SOMA Interfaith Holocaust Remembrance Service

This year’s SOMA Interfaith Holocaust Remembrance Service will explore the theme of Resistance, featuring Dr. Jud Newborn, a renowned historian, lecturer, and award-winning author. Together as a community, we will honor the past, remember the victims, and stand united in the fight against antisemitism, hatred, and injustice. Join us for this meaningful and inspiring event.

I specialize in dramatic and inspiring multimedia programs, with compelling music, images and storytelling. Among my most popular is: LIONS OF JUDAH: THE COMPLETE, UNSUNG STORY OF JEWISH ANTI-NAZI RESISTANCE – And its Lessons in the Difference Between Fanaticism and True Courage.

I’m the Founding Historian Emeritus of New York’s Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust.

I’m also co-author of Sophie Scholl and the White Rose, the definitive account of the famed German student resisters who staged the only public protest against the Nazis. I’ve also written for The New York Times, The Jerusalem Post and most recently, Smithsonian Magazine, among other leading publications.

I’ve lectured coast-to-coast and from Canada to Cape Town, and gave the first lecture on the Holocaust ever held at the United Nations. A Fulbright Graduate Fellow, I was awarded my PhD with Distinction by the University of Chicago in history and anthropology after three years of European fieldwork. This included hunting down former SS officers and Nazi leaders for interviews, analysis of the form and meaning of the Holocaust and death camps. I also worked briefly undercover for Poland’s Solidarity freedom movement six months after the Communists Declaration of Martial Law and the sealing of Poland’s borders.  As mentioned, I was honored by the Anne Frank Center with their 2018 Spirit of Anne Frank Award.

Today I serve as the Emmy Award-winning Producer of Special Programs for Long Island’s not-for-profit Cinema Arts Centre, bringing in Nobel Laureates, Kennedy Center Honorees, and Academy Award, Emmy, Tony, Grammy and Pulitzer Prize winners t  interview before live audiences.
